This month, our featured vendor is Wild Compass Events from Plettenberg Bay. We get to know the company and the people behind it a bit better by asking these 5 questions:
1) How, when, where and why did you get started?
Short version: we’ve been around events forever—festivals, film shoots, launches, weddings—the whole circus. After moving to Plettenberg Bay and starting a family, we missed the buzz and spotted a gap for a high-quality, low-stress hire team right here at the coast. So we built Wild Compass Events in Plett and now kit out celebrations across the Garden Route (and happily pop over to the Klein Karoo too). It’s experience plus local heart, wrapped into one friendly, get-it-done crew.
2) What do you offer—and what’s it like working with you?
We’re a premium dry-hire company. Think the good stuff that makes a wedding feel considered: tables and chairs (yes, those timeless Chiavari chairs), glassware, crockery, cutlery, heaters and umbrellas for the weather curveballs, dance floors, vases, and all the pretty twinkles like fairy lights. We keep things current by adding new stock as we go, so your day feels fresh without being fussy.
Working with us is simple: you share the vibe, we handle the puzzle. We’re punctual, professional and, honestly, a little particular—in the best way. We coordinate closely with your planner and venue so everything lands where it should, when it should. Great weddings are a team sport, and we love playing nicely with the other pros up and down the Garden Route.
3) How do you stay inspired?
We keep an eye on what’s trending (here and abroad) and then translate it for our landscapes—beaches, forests, vineyards, mountain views. We also borrow ideas from our sister brand, Wild Compass Experiences, which designs nature-led adventures around Plett. That crossover keeps our look-and-feel grounded in real places and textures, not just Pinterest boards. (Fun fact: the experiences arm is SATSA-listed.)
4) What’s your go-to advice for couples?
Breathe. It’s not a competition. Pick a direction you love and stick with it. Bring us your mood board—or just a couple of sentences—and we’ll help you build something beautiful and practical that actually works for your venue, your guests and your budget. (We’ll sweat the logistics so you don’t have to.)
5) Favourite wedding moments?
We’re suckers for atmosphere. One week it’s a cosy indoor-outdoor setup in Plett with layered textures and soft lighting; the next it’s a bigger “let’s-dance-all-night” celebration. The common thread is that moment when the doors open and guests go quiet for a second—then smile. That’s the magic we chase.
